As therapists, we’re taught to do our own work—but money is often left out of that conversation.
Unexamined money beliefs can shape not only your personal finances, but also your private practice and how you show up in the therapy room.

Where money and mental health meet, financial therapy isn’t about judgment—it’s about curiosity, support, and creating new possibilities with money. It’s a specialized approach that explores how your emotions, beliefs, and behaviors around money shape your choices, relationships, and overall well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Financial therapy focuses on managing and reducing symptoms caused by finances, and the symptoms make completing daily functions difficult. The process involves identifying and qualifying for a mental diagnosis that meets medical criteria.

Money psychology coaching focuses on improving overall financial behaviors and goal attainment. It is future-oriented and goal focused. It supports clients in financial skill development and behavior change to help them meet their financial goals. In coaching, folks experiencing financial problems are seen as people who are stuck due to current circumstances - that may involve them having limited choices vs. having symptoms that qualify for a mental health disorder.

  • My approach is collaborative and conversational. I understand that money can be a sensitive and an emotionally charged topic. While I provide guidance, tools, and recommendations, you remain in control of your decisions.

This work is most effective when clients are open to being vulnerable and committed to doing reflective work between sessions.

  • This work is time limited and will not be unending. While I cannot say for sure how many appointments we’ll have because everyone’s situation is unique to them, I like to begin with eight appointments. We can add more appointments if needed. If an individual feels like they’ve gotten what they need before the eight appointments, that is fine as well.

  • No, I do not accept insurance for financial therapy. However, you may be able to use HSA, FSA, or HRA benefits—please check with your provider to confirm coverage.

  • My fee is $165 per hour for individual sessions.
